  | VENTURER IRONWOOD SHINGLES |

Ironwood shingles have been used in our region for over 100 years.

Ironwood unlike cedar is exceptionally hard and resistant to rot & decay. After prolonged exposure shingles will take on a distinctive grey black patina. Until now these shingles were only available in flat 6mm thick pieces around 70mm wide.

Venturer together with our manufacturing partners has taken this tried and tested product one step further. We have developed a special taper sawn process, which allows shingles to have a chunky 11mm butt which tapers to a 3mm at the concealed end.

Shingles can now be produced nearly twice the width and installed as a system roof, similar to its cedar counter part.
For a prestigious reference for this please refer to the Datai hotel in Langkawi which uses the traditional ironwood shingle.

The acceptable method for application of spaced batten is to space 1 x 2 / 1 x 4 boards to coincide with the weather exposure (refer attached chart) of the shingles (Figure 1).

Thus, if the shingles are to be laid at 250 mm to the weather, the sheathing boards would also be spaced at 250 mm on center.

In this method of application each shingle is nailed to the center of the batten, and shingles must be pre drilled prior to fixing.

  Application

Regardless of style, the following basic application details (Figure 1) must be observed.

1. Shingles must be doubled or tripled at all eaves.

2. Butts of first course shingles should project 38mm beyond the fascia and approximately 25mm over the gable or rake end.

3. Spacing between adjacent shingles (joints) should be a minimum of 6 mm and a maximum of 12mm.

4. Shingles shall be laid with a side lap not less than 25 mm between joints in adjacent courses, and not more than 10% shall be in direct alignment in alternate courses.
